About Peter

Peter taught in the  Bozeman Public Schools for nearly three decades. In that time he guided thousands of children to develop the literacy and thinking skills critical to citizenship. Peter spent the other half of his life raising three children with his wife, Cameron.

Peter moved from Colorado to Gallatin County in 1995. He started at Emily Dickinson School and finished his career at Sacajawea Middle School, but most of his teaching work happened at Irving School.

Peter served in many roles with the school district: on teams and committees, mentoring less experienced teachers, planning, leading, and organizing for instruction. In 2007, he was named Montana History Teacher of the Year and nominated for the national equivalent.

Peter is proud of his work guiding thousands of Bozeman youth to become productive, responsible, kind citizens. He wouldn’t be surprised to hear that some of them are reading these words.

Peter is proud to parent three children, each raised in Bozeman with his wife, Cameron Hildreth. Much because of engagement with the extended Bozeman community, each of them grew into creative, productive young adults. If you were part of the music, theater, speech, and outdoors scenes in Bozeman over the last thirty years, you quite possibly know them.

Peter has committed his entire working life to public service. His priority, whether teaching or legislating, is helping Montanans to access the highest quality of life possible.
